My Wish

Holding space for grief, heart wide open
mending brokenness with words, colour, texture
inspired in the twilight of our days on this land
not ours.
Welling up with gratitude and despair both
hope is but a glimmer, yet joy is trembling
bursting forth
as the birds sing and flowers bloom
may we take pleasure as we mourn.

Welcome

Heart-felt thanks for visiting me here..

It means the world to have you join me.

These pages on Substack are becoming my main working space as I move everything over from my old blog, and write less on other platforms.. it’s still a work in progress.

I’m super happy to see folks signing up to follow along! Thank you!

It’s my intention to keep my posts and newsletters mindful of your time and inbox space, and hopefully keep it free of charge.

Patches & Refit, wah?

As a means of writing and journaling my way through recovery of a pretty serious head injury after falling in Dec 2016.. and dealing with myriad symptoms.. loss of processes (how to do most things), memory, cognition, which were not only difficult but confusing.. and writing it all out, day after day, eventually it seemed like a good idea to begin sharing some of these writings as a means of keeping in touch with family and friends..

From there..

It might seem I’ve lost a lot — my identity is the main one, my job, the career I built over several decades, and the people, most of the folks I worked with.

Gratefully I’ve pieced together a different identity — now I am tuned in to walking with my own death, helping others to grapple with theirs.. and maybe help in small ways to inform our culture about death and dying, to reclaim ancestral knowingness, and to create beauty wherever possible.

I’ve learned a lot and I’m still learning about my privilege, what it means to be a colonizer, a brainwashed white supremacist, and I am learning.. learning and trying to to unwind that within myself, and identify with others who are doing the same, along way..

It feels like a big responsibility to use my privilege to amplify Indigenous voices (especially voices of Indigenous women, girls and transgendered), to stand for Indigenous sovereignty on their own terms whatever that might be, and to learn from Indigenous ways without appropriating them..

My aim is to use only goods that are reclaimed and/ or which can go back to the Earth.. to speak with, to, and for the land as much as I am able..

And ever so gratefully continue to write, knit, make art, pleasurably.. and share what I make.. and learn how to help others..

With love..

Trish ❤️
