This morning, it was such a pleasure to listen to Patrick Farnsworth’s most recent interview, with Eliot Jacobson.
As many of my friends and family know, I’m one of those people who follow along with the climate data pretty closely, I follow folks who discuss scarcity, globalization, fossil fuel and alternatives and all the various trajectories. It’s just not good news whichever way we look at things.
It’s not popular to be a ‘doomer’ but for those of us who are leaning toward the practical side of things, who are very aware of these not so good trajectories.. terms like ‘hope’ and being ‘hopeful’ have also become not so popular, which is mighty confusing.
Some of the highlights of this interview for me, this morning:
— for those of us who live with the knowledge that things are bad and getting worse, it’s good to know, from someone who is knowledgeable of real science, that we’re not at the very brink of things.. and while it’s still bad, and going to get worse, we’re not there yet.
— Eliot posited the interpretation of Hope being left in Pandora’s Box as a deceptive expectation, which coincides with my own thinking, as well as Nietzche’s who considered Hope as, ‘the most evil of evils because it prolongs man's torment.’
— And yet, Eliot gave more words we can consider for these times, ‘Courage’ being one that might be of great use.
— The reference Eliot gave to Catherine Ingram and her very popular and sound essay entitled ‘Extinction’ is greatly appreciated, as is the spoken audio version (narrated by Catherine herself on YouTube), amongst other YouTube offerings.
Love. ❤️
